How do you read certain notes on a guitar tab?

Posted on July 31st, 2009 by admin in guitar tab | 2 Comments »

My mom bought a guitar learning program but it doesn’t say how to read notes higher (frets 5-22) than the 3rd fret… It’s very frustrating.
I’m talking about the tabs with the whole, 1/8, and 1/2 notes (not the kind with the numbers)

Confusing question. You mean you’re reading sheet music (not tablature)? Is so, that’s great. You’ll be far ahead of the game later (tablature has ruined many a guitarist).

You can probably figure out the notes for the rest of the neck if you know through the first 5 frets. Each fret is a half-step so you can figure it out pretty easily. For example, playing the 5 fret on the E string is an A. So if you go up to frets (to 7) then you’re playing up a whole step from the A (so it’s a B).

You can also look at a note diagram like this one:

Best.

What’s the best way to improve my singing voice?

I’m 20 yrs old, I play guitar and my singing voice is awful. I know absolutely nothing about singing, what is involved etc. Any good Web-sites?, advice?, should I get an instructor?

Also on the side, Are there different ways to devolp your voice?
Classical vs Opera vs Rock. It seems like most blues/rock/folk musicians sound good but have deeper, raspy voices, espcially someone like Tom waits, compared to the very clean sound of classical singers. Do they train in a different way?

You must must must get a voice coach. Tell them up front what kind of music you want to sing, and if they’re willing/able to teach you that style. I would suspect your teacher would begin more classically and then adjust it to be more rock/folk; the classical training is the foundation off of which to build whatever voice you wish.

What type of guitar strings are best for a beginner on an acoustic guitar?

Posted on July 31st, 2009 by admin in guitar | 8 Comments »

i was given a guitar for my birthday and I have streel strings. my mom said that nylon strings would be easier to learn on, but will that affect the way my guitar sounds?

what are the best kind of strings?

A steel string acoustic guitar is designed and built to use steel strings and to sound best with steel strings.

The problem with putting nylon strings on an acoustic guitar is that its difficult to install them. There are little metal balls on the ends of steel strings. You stuff the ball ends of the strings into holes into the acoustic guitar’s bridge and anchor them in place with bridge pins. Nylon strings don’t have little metal balls on the ends — they’re made to be tied on to the bridge of a classical guitar — so putting them onto a steel string acoustic is tough.

No matter whether you start out learning on nylon or steel strings, its going to be painful for the first few weeks as your fingertips get used to pressing the strings down and develop callouses.

Keep the steel strings on your guitar.

How can I get people to view and publish my musical compositions, in specific, choral music composi?

Posted on July 31st, 2009 by admin in choral | 3 Comments »

I’m interested in publishing my music, but I don’t know where or how to start. Who should I send it to? What publishers are willing to view and review (in a friendly way) my compositions?

Publishers are looking for new composers all the time. Are they sacred or secular? I would send manuscripts to any publisher you can find. They are used to receiving unsolicited manuscripts, believe me. I would go ahead and call the publishers (or e-mail them) and find out who to send materials to. You may get lots of "no’s" at first, but somebody will look at them!

Google "Choral Music Publishers" and you will find lots of them, and all sizes big and small. Check with the choir directors at your area high schools and/or churches to find out some of the publishers they use.

Good luck!

How do I find a music publisher who deals in music for film in scotland?

Posted on July 31st, 2009 by admin in music | 1 Comment »

I am looking for a music publisher specialising in publishing music for film and also film and production companies who may be looking for musicians to write music for their films. Can anyone offer any advice on how to go about this? Thanks.

The only thing I know that may come even remotely close to what you’re asking is www.extrememusic.com. Check their website for more details and if that’s even what you need. Good luck.

How do you ask out a girl in the sixth grade choir?

Posted on July 31st, 2009 by admin in choir | 6 Comments »

There’s this girl in my choir at my school. I only see her in choir Monday and Friday. She is really awesome and pretty and a good singer and I try to walk over to her but my legs stop and turn around.
I think I’m going to ask her a question about our choir song because she loves choir. I need a suggestion. If you are going to say I am to young to be dating then you are wasting time and text.

i’d say to just ask her something choir related first: maybe the lyrics to a song or something, or ask if you can look on her sheet for the day becuase you "left yours home" then maybe you’ll build up the confidence to talk to her and hang out wel good luck!
