How do focal length and distance to subject affect depth of field?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin in focal | 2 Comments »

I understand the closer you are to the subject and the greater the focal length, the lower the depth of field will be. However, how do these compare with each other?
i.e. if I want the maximum depth of field should I zoom out and go closer to the subject or stand further away and zoom in?

Stand further away and zoom in :)

For a larger depth of field you want a larger aperture which you can’t get if you’re too close.

What’s the difference between harmonizing and actual singing?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin in singing | 2 Comments »

I get the 2 mixed up a lot. Like there’s a rap group called bone thugz n harmony and they haromonize a lot in their songs. It actually sounds like they’re singing. However, these guys are NOT singers they’re rappers. But still, one could mistake them for rappers who actually sing in their songs. But that’s not what they’re doing because they’re harmonizing.

So what’s the difference between the 2? They both sound like actual singing. But one’s different from the other right?

Think of it as the differerence between 1 note on the piano and a chord. You can have 2 part harmony (like your rappers) or 3 or 4 part, Usually thre is no more than that. So that would be 2 or 3 or 4 notes simultaneously on a piano except they use their voices. I don’t know the group but more they probably are singing. The old 50’s doo-wop street music used 1 singer and often 3 others humming or just singing individual notes in harmony without words. But you don’t need words to be singing. If you remember the old Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do scales one guy can sing a "do" and another a "Re" or "Mi" and that’s a harmony. Each guy is in a different key.

Do you have to have an amazing voice to be a choral director?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin in choral | 1 Comment »

I want to be a high school choral director, I LOVE music, choral music, music theory, piano, etc. Its something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and filling out college applications, I am wondering this.

I don’t have the voice I would like to have. It’s not as good as all the choral directors I have heard. But I know I would do good with this job. Does whether or not my voice is amazing effect my ability to major in music education for vocal?

im in high school choirs… yes my teacher lat a good voice but last year my old teacher could not hit a note.. so no i don’t think you need to have a great voice to be a choral director!!! but you can get a voice teacher to help you with your voice

there is a new song that a girl sings. it goes.. you say im (forgot lyrics) he says im beautiful. (the chorus)?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin in beautiful chorus | 2 Comments »

there is a song on the radio sung by a girl i don’t know her name. it talks about what this one guy thinks about her and what this other guy says she is. the first one is mean and the new guy is nice to her. the chorus goes like…. you say i am (something) but he says i am beautiful (something like that)
that is how it goes through almost the whole song. I heard it on 97.5 radio the other day and didn’t catch the name of the song or band.
Please help me! I cant get the tune out of my head but I cant remember the lyrics!

How do bass guitar pickups sound with electric guitar strings?

Posted on November 16th, 2009 by admin in guitar | 4 Comments »

This is really just out of curiosity that me and a friend have been wondering. Not such as taking a bass pickup and slapping it on a guitar. More like taking a guitar and adding a bass bridge, or nut made for guitar string but with only four slots like a bass, and then stringing in only four strings. I love playion guitar more, but i love bass guitar tone. Im just wondering if this could be a good idea, bad idea, or could go either way.

It will sound terrible. Try getting an amp where you can boost the low end, and buy a bassier guitar, like a baritone guitar.

How Can you go from singing Choral music to music such as pop or Country?

Posted on November 16th, 2009 by admin in choral | 1 Comment »

Im singing Carrie Underwood’s "Cowboy Cassanova" For my schools talent show but it seems weird singing like carrie and not trying to match pitches.
Then i cant seem to get up in my voice without going into my soprano voice.

ok i have been in your shoes more than once if this song is a good match for u then great but what u need to do i close your eyes relax and find this song in yourself make it your own to suit u and your style conform the style to u or sing it accapella then its all in your style
