t I mean) anybody in their right mind?? are you calling me and the kai whakawaa and the rest of aoteroa who arent puhaehae, Porangi?? koz i think they sound bloody awesome.. BTW i think its good that you have your own opinion but i don’t think we need to resort to ‘whakaiti tangata’ te piringa didnt do anything to you e mara. i think well leave it at they aye? We can be big enough to agree to disagree hmm e tahaawai??
hmm, tahaawai i …
hmm, tahaawai i didnt get of track. you said that the pari was traditional. maybe you should have said ORIGINAL in the first place im sorry but the two words are tino rereke. and plus who said your the person to judge what is original and not. te matarae i orehu dont wear pari. btw the’re not gowns, they’re two pieces a pari and panekoti and maybe i should have been clear… i didnt credit the pakeha to the evolution of kapahaka i just used them as a example of a time in history (if u know wha
Your Getting off …
Your Getting off Track ! Your Losing What Im Tryna Justify ! Yeah, iKnow Women Didn`t Have Pari ! But Changing An Original Pari Into A Gown Doesn`t Look So Maori ! And The Voices Are Beautiful, don`t Get Me Wrong ! But It Doesn`t Sound Right ! Anybody In Their Right Mind Would Know that !
What Has The Pakeha …
What Has The Pakeha Got To Do With Evolving Kapa Haka ? Kapa Haka Is Ours ! Maori. So If Your Tryna Say Kapa haka Is Changing Because Of Pakeha ! Hahaha. Mate! Majority Of The People In This Roopuu Look Half White Anywayws !
te piringa were …
te piringa were also not chosen on just their singing but also choreography. and one more thing, if you don’t agree with nga kaiwhakawa’s desicion. how bowt asking to be one at the nex t whakataetae mo nga kura-tuarua o te motu. kia ora ra.
the wairua and ka …
the wairua and ka mohio ratou i te ngako o to ratou nei waiata, then ka taea ratou ki te capture the ‘essence’. as for the Pari. it never has been traditional!! our tupuna didnt have wool (and elastic shoulder straps for that matter) untill the pakeha came!……. Plus, women went bare chest most of th time! yup and the harmonys are part and parcel of kapahaka . if you dont have them then im sorry to say, you dont have much of a chance.
Of course your not …
Of course your not saying they ‘re bad!! and kaore ratou i te (me kii) commercial. and you think that other roopu are being traditional// i doubt it!! kapahaka has changed and evolved since pakeha have been here.. (and will continue to do so). and as for essence of kapahaka. for me if you can see on their faces that they feel ………
it is quite …
it is quite disheartening to read such derogatory comments about someone elses hard work. At the end of the day Te Piringa won, wheather we like it or not.
Kapa haka is merely one avenue to keep our Reo alive, wheather contemporary or traditional. The goal at the end of the day is to hear our Reo. If you understood the words they are singing about then you would understand why they are doing what they are doing. That is the barrier “Te tere hoki o te arero Maori ki hahani”
aggs did something …
aggs did something similar to this in 07 at poly and there version was way better than this…still this is pretty good
Why arent they …
Why arent they posting new stuff man?

gives you goosebumps just listening to it.
tu meke te piringa
I Think Te Piringa …
I Think Te Piringa were awsome!
there voices for secondry are amazing and you can tell they have spent many long hard hours training hard to get to this standard! TRUELY TUMEKE!
their sound alone is better then all secondry and evan many senior roopu!
a performance of this standard takes alot of hard work, dedication, comitment, effort and a alot of passion for Kapa haka.
KEEPIT UP HENI & TUTORZ!
GO HARD TE PIRIRNGA UZ R AMAZING
1st PLACE WAS WELL AND TRUELY YOURZ!!!
Thats not what I …
Thats not what I meant. Im not saying they’re bad. it’s too commercial. Kapa Haka is the only way we keep our Maori traditions alive. They’ve lost the essence.
i mean thier Pare (costume)etc isnt even traditional. THey’ve got the harmony’s and everything down packed but this is kapa haka and not a choir comp.
Isn’t Kapa Haka a …
Isn’t Kapa Haka a type of ‘Performing Art’ and that didn’t like Waaaaay Fake, it looked perfectly good to me. Can I hear and AMEN!!!
Kia Ora koutou …
Kia Ora koutou katoa.
I too was at this competition, i watched and enjoyed every performance that hit that stage, and Te Piringa were purely awesome. However, they did not in any way deserve 1st place. Kapahaka is way to modern and is destroying the tradition put forth by those who walked before our time. Alot of schools deserved to win this comp, but, Te Piringa were not one of those roopu. Arohamai.
Na Piringatahitu.
Mauri Ora.
