Physicians Overlook Baby Has GBS Infection

Below we review a report concerning a claim regarding a Group B Strep infection. Here, two doctors made tragic errors. The first physician involved was the one who delivered the infant. This physician either missed or ignored signs that the newborn had contracted a GBS infection.

The obstetrician then ordered that the child be moved to the nursery. At no time, however, did the obstetrician document or report any of the symptoms consistent with GBS. To compound the problem, the pediatrician who made rounds at the nursery likewise failed to take any action even though the baby was in respiratory distress.

In only a few hours, the newborn suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest and subsequently was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The law firm that represented the family in this matter reported that they were able to achieve a $5.7 Million settlement for the family.
