I have been slowly learning to play bass guitar over the past year, and am interested in playing the guitar parts of songs on the bass, rather than playing the typical "rhythm section" bass parts. There are many books that have bass tabs, but it seems they all show the typical bass part. Does anyone know of any books that show bass tabs for the guitar/melody parts?

the better question would be what bands have bass parts that are actually interesting and have some substance.
one of the simplest songs on bass for this band but it shows a point. the difference between actually playing the instrument and pop music.

you may look into some reggae music, but…bass is bass, LOL. To make things easier on you…you may look into getting a 6 string bass and tuning it to EADGBe, then using the guitar tab. the problem lies in when you play chords…you have the choice of trying to play higher on the neck, or play the root. (playing chords lower on the neck tends to get a little muddy.)

well first it would depend on what genre you plan to play bass on like if you want to play a lot of punk rock, metal, etc then i suggest ultimateguitar.com but there is also a program i used to use call tabit that you download from the internet which allows you to make and hear your own music through tabs and hear other songs people have posted on the site of popular bands like the used and atreyu and blink 182 and learn them the site is tabit.com but they want you to pay for it before you download it but if you search on the internet you can find it for free then use tabits website to download other songs and make your own songs i used these sites myself and they have worked just fine and ive played bass for almost 4 years now
