Does anyone have any tips on getting rid of nerves while singing?

During rehearsals I sing loud and confident. Also I used to sing a lot years ago but got out of the habit. Any tips on singing confidently without the audience hearing my nerves in my voice. That would really help.

Just focus heavily on your breathing. Count your breaths in and out. This has a double effect. First, it gives you something to focus on, counteracting your racing mind, and second, by focusing on proper breathing, you ultimately improve your technique.

Of course, with experience your nerves will decrease. I’ve been performing since I was 6 years old and at this point performing is second nature, it’s no different than rehearsal, which is what you should strive for. Tension kills sound, so while it’s bad for all performance, it’s especially bad for singing.

If I told you to picture the audience naked, what would you smack me with?

LOL, I used to sing for a church. At once time I was in front of over two thousand people. Just stand up there and do it, hoss.

look to the back of the room. I dont really get these problems, but it helps a lot of people. Everybodys different…see if i sing to a small crowd im more nervous but the more people there are the more confident i am. If ur nervous on stage look to the back of the room not only does it help you ignore the audience but it also looks like ur confident and looking at everyone.

    I have the same problem.
But what seems to help me is to just forget about all the people watching me. Just pretend your rocking out in your room or to your favorite song on the radio.

    Good Luck :)

Don’t give stress to your stomach while you are singing.

    Well, here’s a few tips:

First of all, you need to warm yourself up even before you do vocal warm ups! And by "warm yourself up" I mean doing a few stretches, getting the blood in your body to flow!

Secondly, don’t eat 1 hour before you sing. If you sing with a full stomach, your diaphragm won’t function correctly.

Okay, this 3rd tip might need a bit of practice. When you sing, you need to actually see how it feels. By feels, I mean you need to actually memorize how the singing feels. (Oh, and don’t forget emotion!!!)

+, make sure to sing with your mouth relaxed… this may be hard, but it will really help. Whenever you notice yourself straining your mouth when singing high notes.. or ANY notes, stop yourself, and just drop your jaw while you sing effortlessly!

Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, email me at noslutsallowed@ymail.com

I used to have this issue too. What helped me was practicing with family and friends and telling them to critique me. They were usually brutally honest, which in turn made me desire to sing better for them and worry less about my nerves. Remember, your audience wants you to succeed just as much as you do. They paid to see your perform, not feel sorry for you and your nerves. When it clicks that your audience wants you to succeed, singing in front of big crowds is a piece of cake.
