How do I lose nerves about singing in front others?

I am sort of shy with my music. Not so much playing the guitar but singing. I’ve gotten positive feedback, but still it seems I can only sing when nobody is around.
Any tips on how to get over it?

You probably won’t like this answer, but here goes anyway…

Just do it. THE best way to get over nervousness is experience. The more you do it, the easier it will be.

It used to scare me to DEATH to get in front of people. Now…I do it for a living. :-)

before i perform i’d kinda thought that i’m gonna be okay and i thought that i will be able to ignore them but when it’s my turn omg !!! i’m shaking
just relax and have fun , think positive

    don’t think like
    i’m gonna sounds bad
    everyone’s gonna laugh at me
or something like that just think that everyone is supporting you and you’re gonna be okay
    and do your best

    Think:
I am awesome and will wow them.

    Do:
Avoid nervous people, coz they will make you nervous.

You must loose those nerves and practice, eg. Karioke bars (you will never see them again) or singstar at parties.

Dont pretend nobody is there. This doesnt work. I can get up in front of a crowd and fool around, so I dont think singing should be any harder. First, know that you are the greatest singer of all time. Also you are nobody’s bitch.

Then, imagine how good it would feel after if you did really well. If you are still shaking, calm down with deep breaths, then remember you are awesome. It helps to smile, get somebody funny to tell you a stupid joke. Then walk on stage. Give off a sunny attitude, but dont act like you are begging them to accept you. Act happy but cool.

Finally, Ive seen some really shite drummers, guitarists and especially singers before. Earlier this year when my school had a battle of the bands, I constantly wanted to rip my ears out and walk out of the hall. If people give you feedback, you are better than these guys. They were terrible, but after the show, nobody cared. People only care if you are awesome and that is the only thing that leaves an impression.

So in summary, youre on prozac and testosterone pills. And you have a microphone.
